Marseille has announced that it will retain midfielder Renato Sanches from the Premier League this summer, as the club looks to strengthen its squad ahead of next season's return to UEFA Champions League action. The 24-year-old Brazilian-born player is currently on loan at the Ligue 1 side, and his deal with Liverpool expires in June 2022. However, Marseille has agreed terms for a permanent move, which will see him remain at the Stade Vélodrome until 2026. In addition to retaining Sanches, Marseille has also confirmed that it will not be selling any players during the upcoming window. The club is looking to build upon its impressive campaign last season, when it finished second in Ligue 1 and reached the semi-finals of the Europa League. Manager Lucien Favre has spoken about the importance of maintaining continuity within the team, saying: "We want to keep our best players and give them the opportunity to continue developing their careers here." Favre added: "We have some good young players coming through, but we also need to bring in quality signings to help us compete for trophies. We believe that Sanches is one of those players who can help us achieve that goal." Sanches has been a key player for Marseille this season, scoring five goals and providing six assists in 29 appearances. He was also part of Brazil's squad for the World Cup in Qatar, where he played in all three group matches. Overall, Marseille's decision to retain Sanches is a positive development for the club, as it demonstrates its commitment to building a strong squad going forward. With the support of the fans and the backing of the board, the club should be well placed to compete at the highest level once again next season. |
